BODY BALANCE
The
importance of maintaining good health is to
have proper
BODY BALANCED chemistry.
Foods burned in the body are commonly called "digested",
leaving an ash as a result of digestion. Depending
upon the mineral composition of the foods, the ash can be acid, alkaline or
neutral. When there is a depletion of alkali reserve, the result is acid
ash or acidosis.
The ratio of acid and alkaline in a healthy body is 4 to
1.
That is four parts alkaline to one part acid, or 80% to 20%, as shown in our
chart. A strong resistance against disease is present when there is this
ideal ratio and recovery is faster. A safe margin of alkalinity is needed
to offset the effects of acid forming foods.
A healthy body can be depleted of alkaline reserve
when more acid forming foods
are consumed or when the acid alkaline ratio drops
to 3 to 1.
This ratio is a sign of ill-health, but normal function is only present when
there is proper acid-alkaline ratio and adequate alkaline reserve in all body
tissues and blood.
THE ACID-ALKALINE
CHART
It has been determined that the system must be as
nearly alkaline as possible. This doesn't mean that the body must be 100%
alkaline, as life could not exist if this were so. When we say, on
the other hand, that the body is "acid", it means that the
system is no longer near the alkaline point. Unquestionably, sound health
is determined by a good alkaline, acid- free body, while ill-health is always
associated with an extreme acid body.
The
following chart is valuable, as it lists those foods which have an alkaline or
acid reaction in
the system. Nutritionists generally agree that if we can maintain a balance of 80%
alkaline -
and 20% acid-forming foods in the diet, there will be normal health.
