NUTRITIONAL NEWS
YOU'LL DESTROY 3-MILLION RED BLOOD CELLS IN THE NEXT SECOND AND GENERATE 3 MILLION NERVE IMPULSES AT THE SAME TIME. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT - IT'S CALLED LIVING AND IT'S BEEN HAPPENING TO YOU EVERY YEAR OF YOUR LIFE. THAT AND A LOT OF OTHER THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE DOING!
It's a little scary when you consider...
You do actually destroy 3-million red blood cells per second! You do also burn 3 million nervous impulses per second, just sitting down and relaxing. Even your skeleton - the bones in your body - are giving up particles of calcium by the thousands each second! You're literally falling apart.
But don't worry too much about it!
It's been going on since the day you were born. The 3 million red blood cells you destroyed a few seconds ago just got replaced. The body is very selfish with iron; and the iron, the major portion of a red blood cell went back into your system and became part of a new red blood cell.
As far as all those nervous electrical charges are concerned, they've been going on for a long, long time, and unless something goes wrong they'll keep right on going. They'll be generated, used, and they'll cause something to happen; like your heart to beat, your lungs to inflate and deflate, and your legs to move. And you'll keep right on generating them.
And while everybody thinks of bone as a nice stable structure, like a 2x4 in a wall or a leg on a chair or a table, it moves around a little. It's constantly giving up its calcium, which makes it rigid, to do a lot of things in the body; like making you flex a muscle, raise your arm, even wink! Every time something moves in you, you need calcium to make it happen; and part of it, one way or another, comes from your skeleton - your bone - and is rapidly replaced. So you see...
You're really not falling apart with all this activity...
You're just alive and living, but to accomplish those things you need iron, B-Complex, vitamins, and calcium. To maintain your skin you need vitamin A and vitamin D. To cement all that together you need vitamin C. To make your muscles work you also need magnesium. Just to stand up you need at least 14 nutrients that we know of and a couple of dozen others that we haven't quite decided exactly what their need is.
That's why vitamins and minerals aren't a fad - they're a necessary fact of life!
If you eat a perfectly balanced diet you still stand a chance of being deficient in one or more of those necessary elements. Your requirements could be more than is contained in a perfectly balanced diet. You might not be able to use all the nutrients in a perfectly balanced diet and again need more to insure adequate supplies. You might not even be normal. You might be under stress, a strain - mental or physical - that a perfectly balanced diet does not supply sufficient nutrition for.
Let's be factual...
The chances are that you eat YOUR normal diet and it isn't perfect and probably it's not sufficient. It fills you up, you're not hungry, and that's it. But how about those bones, that blood, and those nerves? Your stomach may be satisfied, but are they? That's what extra vitamins and minerals are all about - they make logical sense and they make scientific sense. There is a reason why something either hurts or doesn't work.
But there's a problem...
Until you come down with anemia, muscular weakness, or thinning of the bones (Osteoporosis), until you actually have a disease entity that can be accurately measured, you can't be made HEALTHY.
Are you fatigued?...Are you irritable?...Are you nervous?
These are some of the signs of
sub-normal health before it becomes a CONDITION.
Vitamins & Minerals aren't miracles! They're just normal, everyday food
substances. But did you know that most people over 40 need additional calcium?
Most women need additional iron? Most men do too? That your diet probably
doesn't provide enough B-Complex or A or D or C? And a lot of other things!
